Vol. 1 includes as a frontispiece an allegorical portrait of La Fontaine designed by J.B. Oudry and engraved by C.N. Cochin, and, following the dedication, a plate containing a portrait of Oudry, engraved by J. Tardieu after a painting done by N. de Largillièrre in 1729.

Vol. 1 includes "Avertissement de l'éditeur" (a bibliographic history of the Fables, page iii-viii), and "Vie de la Fontaine" (p.ix-xxx).
